Bust A Crime!
Didn’t we all harbour some ambitions to be somebody when we grew up? Ambitions like doctors, lawyers, scientists, and politicians are some of the more common professions of aspiring youngsters. However, how many of us have wanted to make the world a better place by solving crimes and nabbing criminals? Certainly, being a law enforcement officer takes more than just courage to face the dangers of the job. However, if you could have a behind-the-scenes experience of what it takes to be a forensic scientist, or even a crime scene investigator, would you grab the chance?
One of the most popular TV serials in US – CSI – has become so successful in spinning off various other series and franchises that it has now spawn an educational tour dubbed, what else, CSI: The Experience, to promote the science behind cracking cases through scientific ways. Visitors to the show are given almost lifelike scenarios (minus dead bodies, of course) in order to test their power of observation and deduction in an attempt to solve the crime scene in front of them. The tour hopes to raise awareness concerning the work behind forensics as well as the science behind all the ‘drama’ you see unfolded on television. By incorporating advanced technology and techniques used by crime scene investigators and forensic scientists nowadays, the tour is bound to be an eye-opening experience. For instance, get to know how DNA identification works, and how blood splatter at a crime scene can be analysed in many different ways to lead investigators to further clues and to draw their conclusions.

Be prepared to face three challenging crime scenes (plus another that is based on real crime in Singapore) to test your skills to solve the mysteries that surround these puzzles. Just remember: Every single detail is important. Are your eyes sharp enough to see the clues that are laid out? Well, if you are, work your way to be a “certified” crime scene investigator. You can even get a certificate printed for your achievement – if you have the stomach to overcome the gore!
CSI: The Experience is now open at Science Centre from 16 October 2010 to 20 February 2011
