You Can’t Flood Me

Ever got caught in a desperate situation trying to save your precious computer accessories when you spilled your coffee onto your table accidentally? Totally understandable. Now, someone has managed to knock together some motorised appendages to the external casing of a hard disk drive to safe your valuable hard drive from “drowning” – if you’re unlucky enough to be in such regrettable (but not hopeless) situation again.

Check out the following video. A combination of clever robotics with moisture-sensors, this “quick thinking” external hard disk drive (well, actually, it’s an old floppy disk drive casing) will no doubt save your day if your cup of coffee suddenly tips over. Look, no worries! The casing is able to lift itself up to avoid the flooding pool, and subsequent destruction of the delicate electronics inside the drive. So, there you have it: a “self-righteous” robotised hard disk casing that can save your valuable data from liquids gushing down its way. Question: does it protect the drive from data thieves?

Floppy Legs can save your external storage devices by quickly raising them an inch off the desk upon detection of liquid spills. Certainly, prevention is better than cure, right?
