A Touch of Future

The future looks like it is going to be a “touchy” one. You know why? Look around you at the technology we have now. Mobile phones, ATM machines, AXS machines, etc. are all using the touch-screen technology. It gets really ironic to know that as much as virtual communication has replaced the “human touch”, we are literally touching the latest devices and gizmos to keep our communication going, albeit it being increasingly virtual.
So yes, the touch factor of future technologies brings along more flexibility, convenience of sharing, and definitely more ease of accessibility of information. Not to mention our increasingly “3D” world. Have you noticed that possibly every movie that comes out now has a 3D version to it? But seriously, people don’t seem to mind paying an extra $4 for a movie ticket. Now, even entertainment comes at a higher cost.
Are we really raising the standard of living? Do we have deeper pockets for wanting more visual appeal in whatever we see and feel?
And all the technology predicted in the Matrix, Minority Report or Star Trek seems less a prediction and more of reality, doesn’t it? Soon enough, face recognition, touch screens, fingerprint scanning, motion detectors will take over the world.
And let’s not forget to smile in an increasingly robotised world.
Here’s a clip showing you how life in 2014 will be.
Not to worry. The 2012 prediction is probably nothing more than another myth. You can count on technology to debunk that and sail to more decades to come. Right?
